Legal Support Officer ASO2 Salary range $68,552 - $75,157 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation 

Legal Aid ACT is seeking applications for current and future opportunities for suitably qualified Legal 1 (Graduate Lawyers), Legal 2 Lawyers and Legal Support Officer for our Early Intervention or Civil Justice Practices.

Working at Legal Aid Commission (ACT) is an opportunity to do challenging and rewarding work and make a meaningful contribution to the circumstances of disadvantaged and vulnerable clients and communities in the ACT.

Early Intervention Practice lawyers provide advice and guidance on domestic and family violence and represent parties in court. They also provide Family Advocacy Support Service (FASS), Family Law Duty Service (FLDS), and Health Justice Partnership.  

Some of the assistance include applying and responding to Family Violence Orders, referrals to non-legal support services and assistance to access non-legal solutions. The FASS duty lawyers provide legal advice, information and referrals in relation to family law, family violence and child protection matters. Assist and negotiate with the other party to sort out property, prepare court documents, subpoenas and arrangements for children. Provide representation in urgent interim matters where there are allegations of family violence. 

Civil Justice Practice lawyers undertake a range of advice, duty and ongoing representation work in various courts, ACAT and the AAT across the civil litigation, human rights and community legal teams in areas including discrimination, human rights, tenancy, employment, NDIS, migration, mental health, elder abuse and guardianship.

Legal Support Officers undertake a range of operational, administrative and procedural support tasks and assist in the provision of services in a legal practice.

These positions will be required to work at our office location, due to the in-person nature of our legal work.
